DISAPPEARS IN HURRICANE

NEW YORK, Sept. 19. A dispatch from Key West reports that the steamer Valbenera, bound from Spain to Havana, is believed to have 1 been sunk after grounding on the quicksand at Half Moon Bay. The vessel, which is said to have carried 300 passengers and crew, arrived off Morro Castle on September 9, when a tropical hurricane was raging, and she was compelled to put to sob. to await an abatement. She has not been seen since, though feeble wireless signals were received. A later message reports that divers discovered a sunken wreck, believed to be the Valbenera. The divers said they could distinguish tiro name dearly, but found no trace of the crew or passengers. Two Cuban gunboats searching along the northern shore of Cuba and the Bahamas found no sign of the vessel Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
