HIGH PRICES FOR HIDES. The fortnightly Wellington sales of hides and tallow were held on Friday by the various brokers. " Messrs. Murray, Roberts and Co. report that their catalogue consisted mainly of light-weight hides, the owners of heavy-weight ox hides mostly preferring to hold rather than accept the low rates imposed by tho Government schedule. The sale, which was tho most successful ever held in Wellington, was characterised by tho keenest bidding for all lots, at a sharp advance on late prices. Superior cows reached 19Jd; light ox, 20 Jd ; yearlings and kips, 25id per lb., while a few heavy-weight ox hides reached up to IDJd. per lb.
