WELLINGTON NOTES.
LEGISLATIVE PROGRAMME. CONSIDERED BY CABINET. BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. WELLINGTON,, August 5. The National Cabinet is now engaged in considering its legislative programme in readiness for the return of the loaders, and the session which will follow about a fortnight later. The measures,, it is gathered, 'will be mostly those postponed at the end of the session in the rush last year, and such other urgent questions relating to war and finance as have since been shown to be necessary. For example there is the Mortgages Extension Act and other expiring legislation which cannot immediately be dispensed with. Individual Ministers have been considering legislation of a policy character, but it is. not thought likely that any of this will ho submitted, unless there is an unexpected change in the political outlook. It is generally thought that as soon as the necessary legislation and finance have been disposed of the parties will separate and the Reform Ministry will he reconstructed to face the country, though of course it is possible that there will bo a continuation of the session after the adjournment with the Reformers on the Government benches alone. This, however, is not likely, and in any case, the. second session would be brief indeed. _ Just lately there has been a suggestion of doubt, in some quarters as to whether the Parties, despite what has been said up to the present, will really break apart. Some people whose opinion is entitled to weight think the menace of extremism is beginning to count.
