LONDON, July 30
The King received deputations from the London County Council, Nonconformist ministers and the English Tresbytefian Church ministers. Each presented an address to the King, congratulating him upon the signing of peace. The King, replying to the County Council, said; “It rests with us to build up a new world to replace the shattered fabric; of the old world. Ihe wakened conseiousness of the nation demands new developments and the removal of many grave defects in the social system.” In referring to housing he emphasised his earnest desire that nothing should he left undone to realise belter ideals in home life, this alone making possible a real improvement in social conditions. He was also convinced that there was nothing more essential to national prosperity and happiness than education, true education developing to the fullest extent the spiritual, mental and physical potentialities of every member of the community. This would transform national lile in a gen-eration.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
