Buyers attended in big numbers, bidding being very Ifeeu throughout with the exception of tho registered Shorthorns, which were harder ot sale, but every tiling else sold well. Yearling hellers £t 18s to £3 11s, yearling steers £2 6s to i'3, mixed yearlings £3 Is, 20-month steers, mostly coloured, £4 6s to £5 15s, 20-montlr empty heifers, small, £4 to £5 14s, store cows £5 5s to £7 12s 6d, bulls £7 to £lO 10s.
Mr. Cowling’s herd, which comprised mostly registered Shorthorn cattle, sold from 10 to 18 guineas, 2 and 3-year-old heifers 9 to 18 guineas. Grade Shorthorn cows £ll 10s to £2O 10s. Mr. Colson’s herd contained some nice grade Jerseys, all milking sorts, these selling Iron. £2o‘ to £2V, other sorts made from £l4 10s to £l9 10s, late calvers £9 to £l2. On account of tho same vendor, sows made from £4 to £lO, farm horses £8 to £26. Tlio cows in Mr. Jlobinson’s herd were on the aged side, and realised from £l4 to £2O, backward sorts £ll to £l2 10s. Dairy cows on account of other vendors' made £lO to £lB, 2-ycar-old in-calf heifers, backward, £9 10s to £lO ss. At Douglas on 28th nit. I,had a full yarding of cattle, sheep also coming forward in big numbers. All classes were in 1 cecii demand, practically tne wliole of the yarding being cleared at the hammer. At Stratford on 29th inst. I report a full yarding of both sheep and cattle. There was a marked inquiry for_ all classes, a good clearance resulting. At To Popo on 24th inst. I conducted a dispersal sale of a dairy herd on account of Mr. 11. fiance, junr. Tho cows wore a nice oven line, in good condition and mostly early calvers. and a. good sale resulted. Cows sold from £l3 to £2o, 20-month empty heifers £6 6s. At Doll Block on 28th inst. I conducted a clearing sale on account of the estate of the'late James Haniblyn. Buyers all ended in big numbers, a most satisfactory clearance of everything resulting. At Waihi on 29th hist. I conducted a clearing sale on account of the estate of the late (!. Fetch. The herd of 20 cows contained some very line cattle, all in the pink of condition and mostly early culvers. 'There was a big attendance of buyers, bidding being brisk throughout, the herd averaging £2O 6s. Best 1 cows realised from £2O to £29, others £l4 upwards: 3-yoar-old Shorthorn heifers (springing) £l9 to £2O, Shorthorn hull £lO, yearling huTs £l, mixed yearlings £4 2s. store pigs 37s 6d to £2, farm horses £l2 to £37. At Omata on 30th ult. I conducted a clearing sale on account of Mr. Win. Loveridgo. A most satisfactory clearance of everything was made. The herd of |2 cows realised from £l2 to £lB, backward and poorer conditioned sorts £9 10s to £ll, mixed yearlings £3 os. , ADDINGTON MARKET. CHRISTCHURCH, July 30. At Addington market to-day there were fairly large entries of fat cattle and sheep and moderate or small yardings in other; departments. Chief in^
tercst was centred in the fat sheep sale ( in which a further rise of several shillings per bond was shown, and fat cattle also sold at advanced rates, and values wore above export level. There was a little improvement in store sheep. Pigs-of all sorts sold better. The store cattle and dairy cows wore a moderate lot, but there was a better demand for the former, and veal calves also sold well. Store sheep—Four, six, and eight-tooth ewes, 29s Id to 29s 4d; sound and failing-mouth ewes, 7s 9d to 235; two and four-tooth wethers, 28s to 32s 3d; four,, six, and eight-tooth wethers, 29s to 33s 8d; four and sixtcoth wethers, 29s 4d to 31s; ewe hoggets, 28s 9d to 3t)s 9d; wether hoggets, 29s 6d; mixed sex hoggets, 12s 7d to 24s 9d. Fat sheep—Extra prime wethers, to 77s 6d; prime wethers, 50s to 60s; medium wethers, 40s to 495; lighter; wethers, 30s to 39s 6d; extra prime ewes, COs; prime ewes, 45s to 555; medium ewes, 37s 6d to 445; lighter ewes, 30s to 375.,- low-conditioned ewes, 21a 3d to 29s 6d; hoggets 21s 3d to 31s 3d.
