It was there- ' i fore proposed to float a Peace Loan of J 1 25 millions at 5 per cent, but with i the bonds on the first interest payment ’ it would amount to 5.1 per cent for the whole period of the loan, repayment of which would be made wit par in 192?. Interest would be subject to the Commonwealth income-tax but free of State taxation. If the response was not satisfactory tbo Government would resort to compulsion, and those subjected to compulsion would bo liable to a severe penalty in addition to having to subscribe to the loan.—Aus.-N.Z.
