PALMERSTON NORTH SCHOOLS.
MINISTER REPLIES TO COMPLAINTS.
Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 25. In reference to the complaints of overcrowding in Palmerston North schools the Hon. J. A. Hanan says that' only two applications for primary school buildings at Palmerston are before the Department. The Department has not objected to recommending grants for essential class-room accommodation, on tho contrary, in one of the cases referred to it actually suggested increasing the accommodation, but it objected to the unnecessarily expensive features embodied in the plans. In one case the plane submitted embodied the pro. vision of a pavilion or assembly hall at a cost of about £4OOO. The Department’s objection to this feature was submitted to the board in September last, but no amended proposals have > yet been received. «■ Mr. Hanan emphasises that only limited funds are available, and that there aro urgent demands from many districts.
