ASCOT SPLENDOUR REVIVED

There wan a remarkable revival of prewar splendour at tiie Ascot meeting. The weather was beautiful, and there was a dazzling display of fashion, but a complete absence of khaki in the Royal enclosure. Tho record crowd accorded tlicir Majesties a tremendous ovation. — Aus.-N.Z. Cable-Assn.
TARANAKI DISTRICT COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the Taranaki District O.ir mittee was held on Thursday evening, there being present: Messrs. L. A. Nolan (chairman), W. J. Morrison, G. Fraser, SrPilt, J. Gray. A. Washer, B. H. Chancy, and A. Good.
An application was received from the Ell ham Racing Club for registration. The application was supported by a deputation consisting of Messrs. C. A. Wilkinson. M.P., J. Taylor, J. Campbell and J. W. Tristram. Tho conin'-, iff eo resolved to recommend the application to the* favourable consideration of the conference. Jl was resolved to recommend to the trustees of the district trust fund a- renewal of a certain grant for a further six months. A claim for accident under the general funds was left in the hands of a committee to deal with.
