SYDNEY, Nov. 39, Twelve members of the‘crew of the steamer Arawa have been, sentenced to 21 days’ imprisonment each, for refusing to sail to New Zealand because of the influenza there. The evidence included a cable received by Mr. Holman from Mr. Massey, stating that the epidemic was rapidly decreasing, and that owing to the extreme precautions there was little or no danger of infec-tion.—Aus.-N.Z. VENEREAL DISEASES BILL, SYDNEY]., Nov. 29. There are drastic provisions in th<( Venereal Diseases Bid, which has been introduced in the Assembly. These include compulsory notification, the_ prohibition of advertisements of medicines and treatment. The are a year’s imprisonment and a £SOO fine for persons infecting others, and five years’ imprisonment and a £SOO fine for infected persons marrying.
