I It was derided;—That Mr. Browne’s application for a motor-ear in lieu of a ! bicycle, he held over until the effect of j (he appointment of the additional in-' .struelor is seen. That as no satisfactory application has been received for the position of assistant agricultural instructor, the committee confer with the director az an early date as to the possibility of rearranging the agricultural work. In the course of a short discussion, I the ehai rman said he considered the time had come when the hoard should confine its attention to teaching the boys or girls how to farm, and leave the Agricultural Department to teach the farmers. There was an undoubted shortage of instructors in New Zealand and at present it was impossible to got anyone to fill the position. The board would have to meet the evrector of agriculture and cut out some of the outlying schools or as some members suggested, the central schools. Sufficient salaries could not be offered : for even as it was he was quite convinced that at the end of the year the hoard would show a loss in the matter of agricultural instruction. Ho felt, however, that that loss would bo amply justified. Mr. Dixon said flic education bourns would never have taken on the work with the farmers but for the failure of the Agricultural Department to deal with it. FRANKLEY SCHOOL. The senior inspector reported that according to tJic iiijoiiu..ouu there appeared to exist the necessity for a new school at Ararimu East, as long as there was reliable assurance that practically all the, children (15) of school age would attend. With reference to the proposal to add to the Frank ley school building there was, tinder present conditions, a need for this, chiefly because there were throe teachers. Before consideration was given to the proposal, however, regard bad to be, directed to the effect of the establishment of a school at Vogeltown. including all the standards. It was possible, that the latter would reduce the attendance at Frankley. ’ The board decided to hold over the matter of additions to the Frankley school pending a reply to the board’s application for a grant for the erection of a school at Vogeltown. GENERAL. Various matters at Mangahumo, - Korito, Mangatoki. Pembroke, Ohura and Waitaanga were referred to the overseer. ' The matter of removing the Okaluiknra school to the other side of the. river wa.s referred to the Auckland Education Board. !
