SOME STRIKERS FINED. P*E PBESS ASSOCIATION. GISBORNE, April 23. On coho of the recent trouble at the Kaiti freezing works was heard in the Magistrate’s Court when several workers were charged with taking part in a strike on February 28 at the company’s works. Mr. Bumand, for defendants, pleaded guilty. , The Inspector of Factories, Mr. Westbrooke, said that at the time in question, negotiations were in operation by the company to increase the wage. A meeting of the union was held to consider the offer, but accused decided to go on strike. The magistrate said the maximum penalty for the offence was £IOO. In view of the circumstances he would inflict a penalty of £3, in default seven days.
