CHURCHES BOMBARDED.
PROTEST BY THE POPE. ROJIE, Jan. 6. It is announced that the Pope, in addition to making a formaf protest against tho bombing of defenceless towns also wrote to the Austrian Emperor, charging him with a breach of Ins undertaking to abstain from such attacks. The .Vatican has declared that it is not satisfied with the reply made by Austria and Germany to the Pope’s protest against the bombardment of churches. The clerical papers in Romo point out that while the Austro-Gcrmans have done serious damage to many Roman Catholic churches, the allies have not hit a church belonging to any denomination in enemy territory.
