Forty-four rinks have entered, tho same number as last year—and every club in Taranaki is represented, whilst the visitors will include representatives from the three Wanganui clubs as well as representatives of Waverloy and Patea. The greens are in splendid order, and, favoured with fine weather, there is every indication that the tournament will bo equally as successful as any of its ifredecessors. THE DUNEDIN TOURNAMENT. PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. DUNEDIN, Jan. 20. The Dominion bowling tournament was continued on Saturday, when the finals in tho rinks competition were reached. Rain early in the morning made the green rather heavy, and a shower;was also experienced during the progress of play in the afternoon. The unfinished pairs game between Woolf (United) and Parsons (Ponsonby) was completed, the former winning by 26 to 15.

The semi-final between Parsons and Brown (United),was won by tho Ponsonby pair by 22 to 17. This left Parsons to meet Harraway (Dunedin) in theS final, and an interesting game resulted, the finish being played in the fast fading light. At the tenth head Harraway led by 13-8, but Parsons scored three and four on tho 18th and 10th heads, giving him tho lead of 19 to 18. Harraway, however, came again, and with 2 and 1 on tho last two heads won by 21 to 19. The rinks’ final, between C. ,R. Smith (Otago) and Parsons (Ponsonby), was only a fair game, Ponsonby players not being up to the form previously shown. At tho fifth head Smith was leading by 6—3, which ho increased three heads later to 9—4, hut a. couple of threes to Parsons reversed the position and the score read 10 to 9in his favour. At tlie fourteenth head Smith was eight up, and tlie position was unchanged with three heads to go. Three to Ponsonby gave them an outside chance, but two to Otago on the 20th head put the game beyond doubt, Parsons requiring eight to win with one head to go. He scored two, and the game ended: Otago, 23; Ponsonby, 18. In the play-off for tlie third place in tlie rinks Maxwell' Walker (Ponsonby) heat Smellie (Green Island) bv 24 to 20. Sir James Allen presented the banner to the winning team, the skipper of which this year is president of tho association. Mr. Smith, in returning thanks, expressed special pride, because this was tho first occasion the banner had been won by a South Island team. Ataxwoll Walker said he thought the time had come for standardisation of tourneys, so that tho conditions of tho competitions would be the same in each centre. The Dunedin arrangements, with slight amendments, might he advantageously followed by other centres.
