jrom onn own coßßJEapptJCiw*. September 26.—School re-opens today after the spring vacation. Word has been received that Lieut. H. A. Stratford has been appointed to the temporary rank of captain. Mr. Stratford, who is the appointee to the headmastership of the Central School and was in charge of the Inglewood School, before going on active service, left with the 16th Reinforcements. Those knowing his character and abil-ity-will be sure of one thing—that the promotion has been well earnpd. A team of golfers celebrated the holiday on Monday by journeying tp Hawera to/play the Haw ora team. As the visiting team was not nip to its full strength it met with- a fairly severe beating. The visitors were hospitably entertained to,dinner and afternoon tea at thei club house. . The ladies’ golf championship was won by Miss E. Laing, one up, from her sister, Airs. N. Sutherland, after- a very exciting round, the' players being all-square after the 17th hole. The following is the list of winners to date; 1908, Mrs. H. Thompson; ‘1909, Sirs. W.
