OKOKE.
WtOM OtIK OWN COKfiraPONDENI. September 4.—The rainfall for July was 8.79 in., which fell on 18 days, during August 10,03 in. foil on 26 days; for the same raonthj last year 15.96 in. fell on 16 days and 4.41 in. on 11 days repetitively. The recent long spell of wet weather has been very detrimental to our roads, both metalled and nnmetaiied. Having- no surfaceman they have boon absolutely at the mercy of the weather. It is the metalled part that causes us the greatest amount of thought and worry; wo remember the amount of money, deputations and petitions that it has cost to get that metal part of the road and are annoyed to see what one short month of wet weather can wash away for the want - little attention to the water tables. patriotic committee hekl a very successful euchre party and dance in the Okoko school on the 11th ult. in aid of the Belgian Fund. During the twelve months that the committee has been in existence the sum of £lO2 has been raised, the whole of which, I believe, lias been paid into the Belgian Fund through the head branch at Waitara. Our cews are with us again and a fair amount of grass, the ever-needfiil for the cows. Wc love onr cows.l don’t know what wo should do without them, we should bo lost. Our cream cart is also with us, and wo do not lovo_ our cream cart, it is the banc of our lives, especially when wo have been to a dance the night before. Still we cannot do without the carter, and ho has one virtue, he makes you rise early and early rising is good for cows and men as well, at least so 1 am told. Not being able to lie in myself, 1 am only a judge of the virtues of the early riser.
