THOM ODlt OWN COKRKSrOIfDENI. September 6.—A dance was got up by tno Hall Committee for Tuesday night-, the 29th nit., to try to raise funds to do some little improvements to the' ball and ground, but the weather turned out to be bad aiiul only a few faced it, so that, instead of a little surplus to go to the funds, they unfortunately found themselves in debt, the expenses coming to more than they took. A euchre parly and dance was held in the hall on Tuesday night, sth inst., for the same purpose, but only a few turned up. The committee thanked Mr. Adlam for donating the prizes and Air. Pearson for supplying the music gratia. Alias D. West was the winner of the ladies’ prize after playing otf with Miss Cower and Airs. J. West. Mr. Pearson was tho winner of the men's prize. Tho hall was then cleared for dancing for a short time, when refreshment* were served round, after which a few more dances brought tho evening’s amusement to a close. As tho prizes and music were given there was not very much expenco, though tho takings were not large. The committee is, however, very short of funds after paying for tho new lights, which are a great improvement to the hall. A meeting was held in the liall on Monday evening, Air. C. .Mace in the chair, to consider tho question of getting up a forewell social and dance for Sergl. R. 0. Adlam, who belongs to the ISth Reinforcements, and will bo up. on his final leave next week, and it was decided to hold the social and dance in his honour on Thursday night, the 14th inst. Adlam was one of the first contingent that left Wellington and went to Samoa. Ho was there seven months and came back noth the rest to Wellington and volunteered to go to the front, but, through no fault of his own. the doctors put him hack until further notice several times, but now ho is ready to go to tho front.
