In the Assembly Mr. Elmslie complained of the inadequate provision for dealing with venereal diseases in the Health Department estimates. He said false delicacy hampered all attempts to cope with the disease. The Minister of Health said the money earmarked for the purpose shocked him by its insignificance. The Chief Health Officer reported that patients and nurses were shunned. The difficulty was to make the disease reportable. The preparation known as 606 was not the specific it was supposed to be. He proposed to deal with the matter in an amending Health Bill shortly.
