The first annual sports gathering in co mice Mu u wun the New Plymouth Teonu.cal College took place m me Recreation Ground on Tnursday alternoon, and all concerned aro to bo heartily congratulated upon,'the success aonieved. . The’ weather was an that could bo dbsired. The various events were well contested, the close finishes in most of the events bearing testimony to the excellent judgment of uiose responsible lor tuo handicaps, the officials all performed their unties admirably, ana so well was everything managed mat all the events on a long programme, with tho exception of two or three, ’ uad been contested by lour o’clock, thus onabliug the large number of pupils from the country districts who had oeen taking part to catch the afternoon train. me officials were:— Starter, Mr. A. Gray; judges, Messrs. F. W. Sandford, Skelton and Dull; marksmen, Messrs. Kirkpatrick and Sergei; timekeeper, -Mr, O. H. Moore; secretary, Mr. TV. Badley; result steward, Mr. Duff. Afternoon tea was served in tho shade of the trees near , the Jake in the park, this important department of the afternoon’s programme being in the hands of the lady ’ members of the Technical College staff, Miss Mikkelsen supervising the arrangements, assisted by Misses Else, Still, and Menzios, whilst the girls attending the various classes, all very daintily attired for tho occasion, acted as waitresses. During tho afternoon Mrs. George’s orchestra rendered gratuitously a delightful programme of music, which was keenly appreciated. The piano was kindly lent by -Mr. Hoffmann.
