ON THE ISONZO FRONT. A GALLANT ITALIAN CHARGE. (Received Deo. 9, B.DO a.m.) ROME, Dec. 8. An Italian soldier, describing the terrihle' Isonzo lighting, says that it lasted a tortniglit, wiih an incessant bombarduiont and continuous charges. Throo charges on one day failed, and tho battle-cry “Savoia” echoed in the desolate valleys in vain. • Many of our brothers laid down thou- lives, but we were undaunted. Suddenly, at. midnight, in a blinding snowstorm, onv battalion was ordered to attack. Wo climbed the precipitous heights. Snow whipped our faces, and we could hardly see a yard before us. There was no sign of the enemy until wc wore ten yards from tho goal. Then a single cry rang out. our major’s battle-cry, “Savoia.” Wc caught up the sound, and fell on tho trenches like a cannon ball. Tho first trfineh was full of corpses from tho previous cannonading. Wo swept on, rind carried tho second and third lines, the enemy's survivors begging for mercy. AUSTRIAN NAVAL ACTIVITY. VIENNA, Deo. 8A communique says that tho cruiser Govarra and several destroyers,; operating near San Giovanni and Dimedua on the sth, sank five steamers and several sailing vessels discharging war material. They also sank a French submarine. A French land battery of twenty guns heavily bombarded tho Austrian flotilla, but without result.
