NEW ZEALAND PRESSMAN'. HELD UP IN SYDNEY. (Received Deo. 7, 10 30 p.m.) SYDNEY, Doc. 7. Mr, R. V. Hall, ol the' Wellington Post stall, recently arrived in Sydney to bo married. He was armed with a New Zealand Government permit and proposed retumitg with his wife by the Mooraki on Thursday, which was the last sailing enabling liin'to fnliil tho conditions of the permit. It appears, howover, that the New Zealand permit is not sufficient and that - he must obtain an Australian passport. The Customs authorities hero have so far declined to give an assurance whether such passport will bo issued by Thursday. Several other Now Zealanders are placed in. tho same difficulty as Mr. Hall, being unable ,to obtain passports. GERMAN SCHOOLS. STILL OPEN IN NEW SOUTH WALES. (Received Deo. 8, 9.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 8. Mr. Holman has announced that as there is no power for the State to deal with tho matter, ho lias referred tho case of two schools in Now South Wales conducted by Gormans exclusively for German children to Mr. Hughes, and suggested that they bo closed under tho War Precautions Act. Mr. Hughes has decided that military considerations do not warrant action, and the State officials are considering the point. THE NEED FOR PASSPORTS. (Received Doc. 8, 9.45 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Dec. 8. Tho Minister of External Affairs has notified that the regulations applying to aliens landing in tho United Kingdom have now been extended to British subjects. No adult Briton or alien malo or female is permitted to land, in tho United Kingdom without a passport. NO BUTTER TO BE EXPORTED. (Received Dec. 8, 9.45 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Dec. 8. Mr. Tudor is unwilling to permit the export of butter as there will shortly be a shortage in all the States except Tasmania.
