OPENING OF THE SEASON. HESKBTT TOPS THE CENTURY. Local cricketers played the first game of the season on Saturday last, wuen New i'lymouth-Law combined defeated United ibervieo-H.gh Scuool by 83 runs, 'the chief score m tne winners' total of 198 was made by Heskett with a fine contribution of 140. His innings was not ohanueless, but for an opening day it was a great performance, including four 6’s and twenty-three As. For the other side Monteath (High School) was unbeaten with 60 runs out of 115, made by very good cricket. Fourteen boundaries were included in his tally. Ingram in three hits scored 13, two boing sixes—a lofty hit to tho road and one to tho terraces. Heskett with six wickets for 56 carried off tho bowling honours. Detailed scores:— NEW PLYMOOTH-LA.W.
