Mr. Follett returned from Napier last night. On Tuesday, at the Methodist Synod at Hawera, it was announced that the Rev. W. S. Neal, of Manaia, had enEsted. A Sydney cable announces the death of Mr. Georg© Raffan, a well-known who captained the team that recently visited New Zealand. At the Pukearuhe ratepayers’ meeting last Wednesday evening Mr. J. W. H. Martin was unanimously appointed to represent the district on the Taranaki Agricultural Society and the North Taranaki (TJrenui) Patriotic League.

Among those who.enlistd at Wellington on Thursday was Mr. E. S. Douglas, professional for the Miramar Golf Club. He goes into camp with the infantry on December 14. Mr. Douglas is the leading professional in the Dominion, being the holder of the Professional and ’ Open Championships. When the committee of the club w.ero informed that Mr. Douglas had enlisted, they decided to hold the position until his return, and in the meantime to appoint temporarily someone not eligible for military service. It was resolved at the meeting of the Methodist Synod at Hawera that while regretting that the Rev. W. Canned is prevented by indisposition from attending the synod, his ministerial and lay brethren in this district rejoice that he still is able to share the privilege and activities of public worship, and to exert a graciously cheering* influence throughout our church at New Plymouth. Assuring Mr. and Mrs. Caunell of a deep and widespread joy at the celebrations this year of their golden wedding, the synod desires to record its esteem and- affection tor them both, and prays that they may be given an eventide whose peaceful twilight shall be prolonged until it. merge into the Eternal Dawn.
