TE HENUI PARISH.

INDUCTION OF FIRST VICAR-. BY BISHOP OF DIOCESE. The district’s of T© Hcnui and Bell Block wore recently severed from the control of St. Mary’s Vestry and formed into a new pnrisii, tho first vicar of which, the Rev. H. A. Favcil, was formally inducted into office at Holy Trinity* Church, Te Hcnui, on Thursday evening by tho Bishop of tho Diocese, Dr. Averill. Tho church of Te Henm was the first erected in the New Plymouth district, dating back to March, 1845. There was a large congregation present at the service, including many of the old inhabitants. Amongst the clergy present were; The Ven. Archdeacon fevans, tho Revs. Colvilo, Fowler and Cook. The To Hcnui choir was augmented by several members of St. Mary’s choir,-Miss Matthews presiding at the organ. Appropriate hymns wore sung during and after the service, which followed the prescribed form, the keys to th© church being formally handed to its first vicar by tho people’s -warden, Mr. H. Johnston.

The Bishop urged the congregation of the new district to remember that their vicar, in carrying out his duty, needed their prayers and co-operation. A minister must alsp bo a faithful steward—one who has management, a dispenser, a steward of the mysteries’ of God, to minister grace, and to proclaim God’s truth as revealed by Christ and as taught by the Church. The Bishop remarked that there were plenty of people ready to criticise tho clergy, hut how many wore there ready to pray for them? Ho characterised the relationship between parish priest and the parishioners as one of the most beautiful and touching in the world, and he urged that clergy and layity should work together harmoniously, each memoer doing his bit of work, for only by such means could the church be in a Healthy, state. He felt it a great joy and privilege to institute tho first vicar of To Henui and Bell Block, where in tho past men had laboured well and faithfully. The past history of that church should ho an inspiration to the people to go forward, and help one another by doing all they possibly .could for the church. The concluding portion of the service was devoted to intercessionary prayers in relation to the war and those sol ving therein.
