WELLINGTON CARNIVAL.
ALLEGED IRREGULARITIES. , PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Dec. 2. Tile following statement was made by tlie Minister of Internal Affaird to-day u— i “There has been some discussion in. the press of Wellington lately regarding patriotic funds, especially about moneys arising out of the carnival in connection with certain carnival queen committees which have not been paid over. The matter has been brought before tha Jlinister of Internal Affairs in his capacity as administrator of the War Funds Act of last session. An application was recently made, at first verbally, and subsequently by letter, to tho secretary of a carnival committee for' tho names of the officers, and especially the treasurers, of the carnival committees, which have not yet accounted to the central committee. Up' to this morning no reply has been received, and the Minister and his Department are taking steps to discuss with his colleagues in the Government what steps shall be taken for the purpose of insisting upon the'immediate accounting of moneys to the Wellington Patriotic Committee of funds received by these carnival 1 queen committees.”
