NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. THE CHAMPIONSHIP. WON BY A. BEWLEY.' The final for the championship of the New Plymouth Golf Club was played at the links at Waiwakaiho on Saturday between F. S. Johns and A. Bewley.' Mr.' R. Addenbrooke acted as umpire. Although neither player struck really championship form the match was an interesting one'. The first , eighteen holes were played during the morning and at an early stage in the game Johns was three up, bat at the fai™ Bewley had reduced the lead of his opponent to one up. Johns at the 22nd -hole had again secured a lead of three up, but Bewley got the next three,' the 26th was halved, and the 2fth and 28th were won by Bewley. Johns won the 29th, the next five were halved, and Bewley won the 36th and the match two up and one. Johns played the better golf in the field through the green, but failed on the greens, whilst Bewley on the other hand was putting veiry consistently. A fair number of spectators witnessed the afternoon’s play. THE PLAY. Johns won the toss and drove a-nice ball. He was short with his second and on for three. Bewley got under his ball in his drive, but made a good recovery and was pin high, but to the right of the green, for three. He overran the hole with his fourth. Johns, with a long putt just lipped the hole for four and was down in five. ' Bewley, with a beautiful putt, halved in five.— All square. • Both secured good drives at the 'second, but Bewley had an awkward lie,; with the result that bis second was short. He landed a nice third on the green and was down in four. Johns got well up with- his second, but played a weak third, was on in four, his putt was two inches short, and he was down in six.—Bewley one up. Both landed nicely on the green with their seocnds at the third, but Bewley missed his putt and was down in four. Johns holed out in three.—All square. Johns played four nice strokes to land on the green at the fourth. Bewley got a good drive, a': poor second, long third, topped his fourth and was through the green with his fifth, and just to the left of the pin for sis. At the ninth Bewley was on for three, three feet from the hole with his fourth, and down in five. - Johni was on in three, just short with his long putt and down in five.:—Halved, Johns one up. Bewley landed his drive on the green at the 10th, was not up with his putt, hut was down in three. Johns topped his drive, but got a good second away, his ball landing just.outside the green. He over-ran the hole'with his third, was just short with his fourth and out in five.—All square. Bewley was to the left of the green with his' third at the 11th and on for four. Johns was a little short with his third and was up to the pin in four and dotvn for five. Bewley halved with a nice putt.-—All square, Bewley landed his tee short in the sand to the left of the 12th green and was not out with his second.- He ran through the green with his third and just missed a four. Johns was on the green from the tee, missed his pntt, and was down in three. Bewley holed out in five.—Johns one up. . - Johns was 'eloneside the pin at the 13th for three. Bewley drove into Hie lagoon and dropped for penalty. Ha was just on the green for four, overran the hole for five, and was down in six. Johns holed out in four.—Johns two up. . .... This bus will not return to town. WIXIORA CLUB. Therramaining semi-final of the senior championship has now been played, V. H. Beal defeating V. Elliott 4 up and 3. Beal plays Haslam in the final on Thursday. In the junior championship A. M. Robertson beat A. C. Lawrey, 4 up and 3; A. L. Humphries beat J. G. List, 2 up and 1; J. Johnston beat L. B. Stohr, 3 up and 2; C. H. Drew beat H. B. Booth. 2 up and 1. In the semifinals, Johnston plays Humphries, and Robertson plays Drew. Mixed foursomes will be played on Thursday ■ afternoon. WITIORA v. WAITAEA. On-Satnrday a team from the Witiora Chib journeyed to Waitara, and played a match with the local club. In spite of: a shower or two during the afternoon a most enjoyable time was spent. The visitors were entertained at afternoon tea by the ladies of the Waitara Club. The match ended all square, the results being as follows; Elliott lost to Sampson, 2 down. Loftns lost to Wyllie, 1 down. Sole beat Eggleston, 8 up and 7. Smart lost 1 to Bowler, 1 down. Johnston heat Dewhirst, 4 up and 3. M‘AUnm and Smaill, all square. Coxhead beat Chubb, 6 up and 5. Booth lost to Mrs. 'Were, 2 down. J. G. List beat Lund, 7 up and 6. THE INGLEWOOD CLUB. Hie following are the results of the men’s golf championship _ First Bound.—Darlow beat Gudgeon; H. Thomson beat Sqrrey; Brown beat Bullard; 6'. Sutherland beat o’CarreH; N. Sutherland beat Hogg. Second Bound.—N. Sutherland beat Marshall; G. Sutherland beat Brown; J. Sutherland beat Johnson; H. Thomson beat Darlow. In the semi-finals, to take place this , week, H. Thomson plays G. Sutherland, and J. Sutherland plays N. Sutherland. Mrs. H.
