WHY ARE THEY NOT AT THE FRONTO?

Sir, —In last night’s paper I notice a letter, signed “Craven,” asking the above question, and alluding to certain lieutenants, captains, etc., m our Territorial Forces or New Zealand, and asking why arc they not away. Speaking from my own experience I can give my side of the question. On two separate occasions I have tried to join the Expeditionary Forces, but have been turned out a's physically unfit, although I am fit and willing to train as a Territorial and wear stripes, because I qualified for them by examination, possibly more than anybody belonging to “Craven” could do, but here wo are in our own country doing what we can, and wo get nothing for it bat jeers and white feathers Irom people who don’t take the trouble to try and look further than their noses, and if the truth was known it would in all probability bo seen that these people who sink to sucli a low and disreputable practice are doing nothing for anybody except No. 1; and if tho peojdo who are at present posting white feathers to some of the boys m tills town will take any notice of one who knows they will drop the matter like a hot brick, because if they are found out, be it man, woman or child, they will suffer, and .suffer hard, as tho cowards should, because they are nothing more or less than the lowest when they sink to such cowardly acts before thinking. Probably they are not capable of such acts as thinking, aud if “Craven” would like any more news on the subject let him or her sign his name and they may got it personally.—l am* etc., H.
