BY-ELECTION.
SIR JOSEPH WARD’S VIEAVS PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. AVELLINGTON, Juno 16. In the course of a brief reference to tho by-oleotion, Sir Joseph AA aid said that tho decision as to whether or not there would bo another general election did not vest with the Opposition, ns the Prime Minister had stated. The granting of a dissolution was one of the prerogatives of the Crown, and his Excellency the Governor certainly would not allow another election to bo forced upon the country until every other moans of securing a stable Government had been exhausted. Tho cry of another election was a bogey.- “I am not going to discuss politics,” ho added, “biit 1 am quite sure the electors realise that tho Opposition is at least as loyal and anxious as tho Government is to give tho Mother Country every possible assistance in tho present crisis and strengthen tho bonds of affection and interest that hold New Zealand to tho Empire.”
