THE CHALLENGER DAMAGED. PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION. ■ AUCKLAND. April 25. The challenge races for the New Zealand Power-boat Association’s speed pennant and the challenge shield, between the Auckland launch Fleetwing (the holder) and the Christchurch launch Disturber (the challenger) attracted considerable attention yesterday. The day was perfect, there being a dead calm and bright sunshine. The Flcetwing won the first of the three races by 35 seconds, the 8J knot course being covered in Klrnin. 22sec. An unfortunate incident occurred at the start of the second rare, which caused the postponement of the second and third trials. Several .pleasure craft obstructed the course, and the Fleetwing, in an endeavour to avoid these boats when manenuvring to get into a position for the start, collided with the Disturber and nut her out of action. The Disturber was raced to the slip and arrived in a sinking condition, but her injury was not serious, and it is possible that'the second and third races will be hold to-morrow afternoon.
