Hall proposes to economise by buying flour m largo quantities, eliminating the cost of running hundreds of bakehouses, spending uo money on advertising or carters’ bonuses, and sending one cart to each street instead of twenty. He estimates a saving of £150,000 per annum in delivery charges alone. There will ho no had debts, tho State selling books of coupons, exchangeable for loaves. The reduction of a penny a loaf trill save people £2500 weekly and leave a large profitlie proposes to acquire thirty-five to forty bakbries, and compensate the owners. He will appoint an expert board to consider offers. Air. Hall remarked that the master baker in future must be prepared to embark £25,000. Already companies have been formed throughout New Zealand in the ordinary courso 01 industrial evolution without Government intervention. Within ten years the bread monopolies established in all the largo centres would bo as profitable as the Colonial Sugar Company, but tho Government proposes to forestall the trusts in the public interests. His political faith would prove vain if it worked unsuccessfully and lie would admit himself down and out. Considerate treatment would be given to all the men displaced.
