NEW FIRE STATION.
TENDER ACCEPTED.
The Now Plymouth Eire Board has accepted, subject to the completion of certain formalities, tho tender of Mr. H. H. Grayling for the erection of a new fire station. Tho site of tho now’ station is situated at tho corner of Courtney and Liardet Streets. Tho building will bo a two-storey one, attractive in design, and will he in concrete, with rough-cast finish. It will bo divided into a large, engine house, watch house, store rooms, etc., and the remainder of the building, comprising tho ■whole of tho first floor, will be devoted to the usd of tho volunteer firemen resident on the promises. About seven bedrooms aro provided, each with accommodation for two men. Tho sanitary arrangements have received particular attention, and include hot water service, hot and cold shower, and plunge baths. Provision will also bo made for the erection of fire alarm circuits throughout tho borough. MODERN APPLIANCES. Tenders arc expected from Homo shortly for tho supply of a motor firo engine, a 300-400 gallon pump and wheel turn-table escape of about 70ft. These' appliances wall bo fitted with all tho very latest patents for the control of the machine and for firo fighting. It is 'understood that tho plant will'bo ahead of anything in New Zealand, and that it will roach Now Plymouth in time to be installed immediately on the completion of tho new station.
