MONTHLY MEETING. Tile monthly meeting of the Taranaki Education Hoard was held on Wednesday afternoon. Tho chairman { Air. H. Trimble) presided, and there were also present: Messrs. ({. A. Adlatn, A. Morton, J. Young, U. Masters, A. M. Bradbun-, W. Hosiers, A. Ilideombe, and B- Mai-fell. TECHNICAL INSTRUCTION. The director (Mr. A. Gray) reported as follows - .New Plymouth.—ln connection with tho engineering workshop the. department has authorised the expenditure of 1-3.. Wo are now busy procuring stumble machinery and apparatus. When the machinery suggested by tho department hat been procured and installed. there will not bo enough room for tho class. Mr. Tyrcr reports that the students are delighted with the work they hare received. Country Classes.—The class.es in country centres arc all continuing, and in the majority of cases are well attended. Agriculture Instructor.—From duly 20 to August 20, Mr. Ellis is working tho 1) section, consisting of Opnnako. Oaonni, Pihania and Awatuna. Aftcr that date ho will begin again on Section A. The report was received. WARE A SCHOOL. Tho chief inspector, reporting on the application of the Wurea Committee for additions to tho school, said tho seating accommodation was taxed to the utmost, and with two teachers working in the same room the work ol the school under present conditions must suffer materially As everything pointed to permanency of settlement ho was c! the opinion that application should Jto made to the department for the necessary additions. —The inspector’s suggestion was approved. :r ATA RA CM AKA A DDITTONS, With reference to a similar application from Tatarahnaka, tho inspector paid the school provided accommodation for -13 pupils. The present roll-call was 33, and the average lor tho last nine weeks was 43. There was every probability that this attendance would bo maintained, and ho would recommend that application be made to the department for an addition. .Messrs. Adlam and Morton maintained that, considering the age of tho building, it would bo unwise to enlarge it further, hut would be better to rebuild altogether. Eventually it was agreed to adopt the report, tho overseer in the meantime to inspect the building and give his opinion on tho wisest plan to be adopted.
