FROM OUR OWN COUUKSPON’DENT. March 23.—-Tho weather here at present is fairly good, and tho roads are being clew'd oi slips and patched up generally ? -nd new formation is to be proceeded with almost immediately. The country is looking its best now, and there is a great abundance of feed, mj that all stock lmve a very satisfied and well-done appearance. Our local sports meeting was to have been held on Tuesday, tho 17th inst., hut owing to tho bad weather it had to be postponed till the following day. There was a fair attendance.of the public, although the morning was showery. All the events wore well contested. A good number of contestants travelled a ■fair distance to attend. The following are tho results:— Maiden race, 100yds.—R. A. Shewry 1, A. Loft 2. 220yds. race.—A. Loft I, R. A. Shcw- ' Double-handed sawing handicap.— Shewry Pros. 1, Burkitt and mate 2. Ladies’ nail-driving competition.Mrs. Kent 1. 440yds. Handicap.—A. Loft 1, R. A. Shewry 2. Maiden chop handicap, 12in.—J. L. Brough 1, F. J. Payne 2. Old man’s race (over 4o).—E. Shaw 1, R. Scott 2. Married ladies’ race.—Airs. P. APGregor 1. Kotaro handicap chop, IBin.—J. E. Shewry 1. F. J. Payne 2. Tilting in the ring.—R. Scott 1. Single ladies’ race.—. Miss R. Payno 1, Miss F. Schmidt 2. Stepping the chain.—J. Shcchy, sen. Tug-of-war.—-Kotaro team. Horse jump.—J. L, Brough 1, W. Rigg 2. Sheep guessing (live weight).—D. Riddell and .Mrs. Anderson. A dance was hold at Air. Barlow’s house in the evening, and there was a record attendance. Music was supplied by Alcssrs. W. Schmidt, R. A. Shewry, and G. Reeve. Everyone enjoyed themselves and thoroughly appreciated Air. and Airs. Barlow’s kindness in lending their house for the occasion. Alossrs. E. Sheohv and G. Taylor catered botli for the sports and the supper, and full justice was done to their provisions.
