AT THE CARNIVAL.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—While Ihe committee of the Carnival deserve hearty congratulat ion.s for the attractive programme which is lioing_ presented each night tJiks week, their management shows room for improvement. and 1 hope they won't take a little criticism amiss. Last night (Tuesday) the interval had already commenced when the writer and some friends entered the theatre at B.od. and wero informed that the programme would be resumed at 0.30. hut instead of that it was just on 0.10 when the curtain went up. There wore then five good items to come on, and these wore quite enough to interest and plea.se the audience until a reasonably late hour without permitting encores at the instance of barrackers for any particular candidate. Tho legend “Smoking .Strictly Prohibited” is prominently displayed on the walls, and tho observance of this injunction cannot be too rigidly enforced, especially when light gauay dresses and curtains arc much in evidence. But last night .smoking was being openly indulged in, both upstairs and downstairs, bandsmen. officials, and visitors being among the culprits who lit and smoked cigarettes in close proximity to the Mayor and committeemen. To smoke at such a gathering is in itself beastly bad form, hut beyond this it shows a selfish disregard for tho safety of others, especially the children.—l am, etc., GOING AGAIN.
