EMPIRE THEATRE “SCROOGE.” To-night, at tho Empire Theatre, patrous'Vill be introduced through the medium of the cinema to tho famous English actor, Mr. Seymour Hides, in tho play and character of “Scrooge,” a part which Mr. Hicks is credited with playing with conspicuous success on over 2000 occasions. “Scrooge” is a dramatisation of tho lato Charles Dickens* “A Christmas Carol,” and takes its stago-narae from the “squceczing, wrenching, grasping, covetous old sinner, who secret and solitary as an oyster, was hard gnd sharp as flint, from whicli no stool has ever struck out generous fire.” Tho performance from which to-night’s pictorial presentation was taken was specially done for the cinema by Hicks and his London company on the spots indicated in Dickens* book, and the privilege of witnessing the reproduction of tho work of the celebrated actor and his tonfreres is one of those special advantages which is derived from tho existence of that modern invention, the kinematograph. The film is 3000 ft. long, of fine quality, and tho acting is described as superb. Other motion pictures selected to support “Scrooge” are “A Window' on Washington Park” (Vitagraph drama), “Construction of a Locomotive” (industrial), Athletic Sports** (topical), “Gaurnont Graphic,” “Sauce tor the Goose” (comqdy). and “New Zealand Animated News.** Tho Empire orchestra will contribute overtures and incidental music to all screenings.
