In New Plymouth tho sky, which had boon beautifully clear early in the evening, clouded over before tho bogin--1 ning of tho eclipse at 10.20, but there 1 wore intervals in which tho moon was clear of tho clouds and tho progress of tho eclipse could bo scon.
