A cablegram to-day. announces the death of the Very Rev. Sir James Cameron Lees, who has held the position of Chaplain-in-ordinary to the King in Scotland since 1901. Dr. Kalenburg, late of Guys Hospital (London), and recently of Gisborne, was last evening appointed medical superintendent of the Gisborne Hospital, at a salary of £6OO, subject to tho confirmation of Dr. Valintine, Inspector General of Hospitals. There were twelve applicants. , ■ , , General Sir Archibald Hunter has resigned the Governorship of Gibraltar. General Hunter: made some rather strong remarks about'the character of the civil population of Gibraltar! These statements were resented by the people of the town, and the General waa given three months’ leave of absence. The death is reported from London of the Duke of Sutherland, at the age of 62 years. The late Duke was the fourth holder of that title, but the earldom had .been in the family since 1228, and its members had played an important part in the history of, the country. The Duke was the owner of 1,358,(t00 acres, mostly land in the North of Scotland of a very rough description. He also inherited Stafford House, which was recently sold to Sir William Lever, of the soap-making firm. The new Duke, hitherto known as the Marquis of Stafford, is 25 years of age, and was married last year to Lady Eileen Butler.
