MANGOREI.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) May I.—There seems to be a feeling abroad that a householders’ meeting is either an unnecessary or a useless function, for. out of nearly forty persons entitled to attend for the Lower School district only ten put in an appearance on Monday evening last, while the Upper School failed to secure a quorum, so that the meeting had to be adjourned. The meeting at the Lower School was presided over by the chairman of the late committee, ivrr. Stanton, who briefly reviewed the work of the year. This was somewhat meagre, owing to the fact that no report of the examination had been furnished by the inspector. A resolution was carried calling the attention of the Education Board to this fact. Further discussion took place as to the advisability of introducing several new reforms," which, however, did not meet with the approval of the meeting. The election of a new committee then topk place, the results of which have already been published. Andrews ; Bros., of Okato, were through the district last week with their chaffcutting plant. The stacks opened up much better than was expected, considering the wet weather we had at harvest time, and the chaff proved good and heavy, ranging from 25 to 28 bags to the ton. A few stray shots to-day _ proclaimed the opening of the shooting season, but birds are scarce, though hares are fairly numerous. The milk supply is falling rapidly now. It is expected the creamery will run every other day next week. Women as a rule are the most consistent tea-drinkers, and the multiplication of tea rooms and tea'*kiosks throughout the Dominion affords striking evidence of the increasing popularity of tea. The women of New Zealand may be classed as connoisseurs, as they show a decided preference for Crescent Tea, which is rich and strong and of delicious flavour.
