KAIMIRO.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) April 29-—Last Friday night a very pleasant social was held at the hall. The arrangements for some were made by Misses fc>. Williams, 0, Shoemark, D, Goppertb and J. Hints:. Although the weather was not very favourable it turned out a real success in every way. Mr. Walter Peters acted as- M.C., and the music, was supplied by'the Kaimiro orchestra. The annual meeting of householders took place last night, and was well attended. It .would seem that Kaimiro is one of the few districts where a real live interest is taken in school matters. Mr. W. Shoemark was voted to the chair. The Chairman, in reading the report,! remarked upon the regular attendance of members of tho committee i ■ lie also spoke highly of tho teaching staff. The balance-sheet of the general account showed an income of £l7 10s, with a credifc balance from last year of. £4-17s lid, which made the total revenue £23 7s. lid, and expenditure £l7 12s 9d, leaving a credit to be carried-forward of £-1 15s 2d. Thu committee found the' picnic and prize account -over-drawn by 5s 6d when they took office. They had a revenue of £22 5b 9d,.expenditure £lB 11s, leaving a credit balance of £3 145.9 d to be carried forward. The report and balancesheet were adopted, without comment. The Chairman then called for nomi- , nations of seven householders to serve as members of the Kaimiro School Committee for tho ensuing year. The following seven householders were nominated: Messrs. AV. G. Shoemark, Fred. Sollicker, Frank .Mnndt, John Lilly, James Henderson, Henry Taylor and John. Williams, Quite a number of others wore also proposed but declined. The Chairman therefore declared the , above seven duly elected. At a subsequent meeting of the newly-clected committee Mr. AV. G. Shoemark was elected chairman and Mr. H., Taylor secretary and treasurer. The present price of pigs (old per lb.) makes things very awkward for fanners. Every pig.is anxious to be .in.the factory before prices drop again. It is evident that there will lie lass home killing and consequently less bacon, for the' farmers’ breakfast table.

I see by the Wellington papers that the annual bogie of “child-slavery” in Taranaki is again on view. W’ollington papers 1 mnpt bo hard'pressed for copy or else they would not dish up the same old lie year after year. It is‘no use contradicting. them. Reasoning is wasted on, people that are . possessed with a mania ; the product of a diseased perception can only he treated with tenderness and pity-for their lamentable condition. Building operations will he very brisk, here for a while. Additions to the hall, additions to Mr. F. Sehiekcr’s residence and a new house for Mr. J. Lilly are under way. The very mild weather experienced lately is causing the farmers' some anxiety. The cows won’t go “dry,” and that means postponing the annual holiday excursions. Weather.—Mild, sky cloudy, wiud’W.
