LABOURITE MARTYRS. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH. April 29. P. 0. Webb (president of the Federation of Labour), E. J . Howard (secretary of the Canterbury General Laboured Union), and F. Cooke (a prominent Socialist and a candidate for the City Council), who some weeks ago were each fined £2 and costs for having caused an obstruction of traffic by addressing a public meeting at.the clock tower, and who failed to pay their, fines, were arrested to-day. Webb gave himself up, and was taken to the Lyttelton Gaol to serve a month’s imprisonment. ALLEGED INCENDIARISM. INVERCARGILL. April 30. _ In the Police Court, Coi'in Gerard, a farmer, was committed for trial on a charge of setting fire to refreshment rooms at Thornbury, the premises being destroyed and the loss to the proprietor being £BOO. The Magistrate remarked that though the case was not very strong, he was satisfied that it should go before a jury. Bail was allowed in three sureties, each of £IOO.
