THE OPPOSITION CASE.

SET FORTH BY MR. RUSSELL, Per Press A.ssociation. •

CHRISTCHURCH, March 19. Mr. G. W. Russell, M.P. for Avon, addressed Ins constituents', and dealt at considerable length with the policy of the Government. He said that the splendid progress in social legislation had been checked by the present Government, but happily the change of Government was only temporary, as the Liberals and Labourites are united more closely than had been the case during the past ten years. Both were absolutely agreed that Mr. Massey must go. Referring to finance, he stated that in July last, when the Liberals went out of office, New Zealand 4 per ccnt.’s were 102, 3} per cent.’s 94J, and 3 per cent.’s 841, whilst on the 14th' lust, they stood at 100, 90 and 78. Before the Massey Government came into office New Zealand stock stood. higher on the London market. He alleged that as the result of the appointment of the Civil Service Commissioners the service was seeting with discontent. Referring to the loan of £3,500,000, he stated that consequent on its flotation at 4 per cent, at 98, the loss to the country would be £882,000. He was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence.
