THE TITANIC DISASTER.
EVIDENCE BY MR. iSMAY. By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. (Received Juno 5, 9.30 a LONDON, June 4. Mr. Ismay, giving evidence at the Titanic inquiry, said that Captain Smith handed him a Miirconigrnin from the Baltic about noon, reporting ice. He glanced casually at it, but did not attribute much importance to it. He did not consider it advisable to slow down. Providing the weather was clear the captain was fully justified in going at full speed through tho ice region in order to leave it behind as soon as passible. It would have been unwise to slow down at the risk of meeting fog. There Were no children on the boat deck when ho loft. He did not inquire before entering the bout whether any women and children were lelt behind.
