TIM ARC SESSIONS. Per Press Association. TI.MARU, June 1. The Supreme Court opened to-day, before Mr. Justice Denniston. There were only Uvo criminal cases for trial, and one lor sentence, and the Judge congratulated the grand jury on the shortness of the list. J. \V. Sadler, who had admitted sixteen charges of falsifying railway receipts for freight charges lie had paid as a carter, was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment, Thus. Jackson Smith, aged 00, convicted of keeping a brothel, received tho maximum sentence of two years’ imprisonment, and the circumstances ;,emg, in'the eyes of the Judge, particularly had, his Honor expressed regret that lie could not make the .sentence heavier. A second charge of robbing a visitor of .£2-1 failed through insuificient evidence. Smith’s wife will bo charged to-morrow. AUCKLAND SESSIONS. AUCKLAND, June 5. In tho Supreme Court Thomas Henry Phillips, who was concerned in , tho Vulcan Lane assault case, was sentenced to one year’s hard labour and three years’ reformatory treatment.
