PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The first meeting of the board after the annual election was held at Rahotu on Thursday, May 9. Those present were: Messrs. James, Young, Potter, Harvey, Leahy, Willcox and Ducker. The returning officer announced the result of the election, namely, that Messrs, Harvey, Ducker and Willcox had been returned. Air. Young was re-elected chairman. Messrs. Harvey* and Ducker reported having inspected the Pungarehu Road, and the board decided to get a legal opinion re the fences being out on road line. It was also reported that some of the settlers had moved their fences and others had not. These are to get a final notice to do so at once. The new lease of pound paddock was signed and sealed by* the board. Mr. Ducker and the foreman reported having been successful in getting a supply of very good chaff for the board’s "horses, at a fair price:—The action herein was confirmed. The foreman reported the Arawhata road in a very bad way, and requiring urgent repair.—The board directed the foreman to spend £35 at once in making the road passable. The foreman asked permission to do the Arawhata Road before the Ihaia Road work.—Granted as urgent. The board directed the foreman to get two new horse rugs. The matter of repairs and painting the office was again brought up, and the board decided that the clerk draw up the necessary specification and have the work done. Resolved, that Mr. Willcox arrange with the county for the crusher to go up the Kabul Road for one day. An application is to be put in to Public Works Department for £7OOO to complete the Wiremu Road from Puniho Road to Ihaia Road. The board authorised the raising of a loan of £4OO to make the Turn Road. The foreman was instructed to report to next meeting on some work required on Lower Waiteika Road. The chairman and Mr. Ducker were appointed to appear before the Railway Commission. Mr. AVillcox was appointed to represent the at the New Plymouth conference on 'the Local Government Bill. Air. Symons asked the hoard to make a bad bit of the Oponrapa Road near his farm.—The foreman estimated the work to cost £l7. The hoard agreed to spend £6, provided Air. Symons provided a similar amount. The chairman and Air. AVillcox were appointed t'o sign cheques. Accounts amounting to £155 were passed.
