EGMONT RACING CLUB. WINTER MEETING. CONCLUDING DAT. The second day’s racing of the Egmont Club’s winter meeting took place at Hawera on Thursday, and, as on the first day, everything passed off very successfully. The attendance was about £IOO better than that of the concluding day last year, when very unfavourable weather was met with. Most of the finishes were again interesting, particularly in the Borough Handicap, in which the two Maniapoto geldings Ngatiruanui and’Draft and East Wind fought out the finish, and the Ngamutu Handicap, in which a head divided the three placed horses, Glenfern, Royal Simon and Lady Volga. The latter was the finest race of the meeting. Tho tote figures for the day amounted to £11,330, against £4669 last year, an increase of £6661. The total for the two days was £21,299, an increase of £8099.

St. Prior was first to show out from a good start, but at the first fence Surplus was in the lead. Turning into the straight Doggerbank was in command, with Surplus lying handy in second place, and St. Prior next. Passing the stand the same order was maintained, with Seaman fourth. Approaching the back stretch Seaman moved up into third place, with Rawinia fourth and St. Prior next, * and along tho back Seaman headed Surplus and steadily overhauling the leader, they wore together at the three-furlong post, with Surplus closing up next, and Rawinia in fourth position. Doggerbank led from Surplus and Seaman into the straight, but after negotiating the last hurdle Surplus came away and won comfortably by a length, a neck dividing second and third. Silver Cluse was fourth, Kauroa fifth, and Clemency next. ■ Time, 2min. 51£sec.

Ngatiruanui eaused some delay at the barrier, but the field was eventually dispatched to an even start. Master Tupuhi was momentarily in front, but Squireen soon took charge, and led from Ngatiruanui for four furlongs, with Draft next. Then the order was , Squireen, Draft, East Wind and Xgatiruanui, but coming into the straight Ngatiruanui and Draft were in the van, with East Wind on their quarters. Xgatiruanui won a good race by threequarters of a length, and a neck was the difference between second and third. Time, Imin. 33sec. '

The same order was maintained along the back, and then Mondip began to improve his position. Entering the straight Red Lupin was still in the lead, with Coromandel next 'and Mendip next. At the distance Mulga Bill camp through from the ruck and won by a length. Coromandel was two lengths ahead of Mendip for second place, and Red Lupin finished fourth. Time, 2min. 14nec. Passing the stand the first time Comedian was in the lead from Red Coral, Nebulous and Millbanks. The same order was maintained along the back, Red coral lying close on the quarters of Comedian, and then there was a gap of three or four lengths between Nebulous third, and Millbanks was stall another length away last. In the straight Comedian came away and won very easily by five or six lengths from Nebulous, with Red Coral a poor third. Time, 2min. osec.
