DOMINION TELEGRAMS.

BURGLARY IN AUCKLAND. Per Frees Association. AUCKLAND, May 8. Burglars entered in Mechanics Bay on Monday nighty and broke open a safe with dynamite. They carried tho safe into tho back of tho building. It is evident that the burglars enveloped the safe in some modelling clay, which they found on the premises, their object being to deaden the noise of the explosion. The remains of four fuses wore found near, and it would seem that the burglars worked with gloved hands. The noise of the explosion would not be taken much notice of, as work in the sewer in the vicinity has required a lot of blasting. The total value of the haul from the safe .was about £5. Peter Oreig was further charged with the theft of timber, valued at £B4 17s, the property of Hogg and Co. Tho evidence for the prosecution was that the accused loaded timber at the wharf, but instead of delivering it in Hogg and Co.’s yard, sold it to various people. Both accused reserved their defence, and were committed for trial. Bail was allowed James Grcig in his own recognisance for £IOO, and two sureties of £SO each.
