(From Our Own Correspondent.) May B.—The rainfall for April was 9.34 inches, as against 12.2 inches for April of 1911. Rain fc-11 on 21 days, the maximum falling on the 9th, 2.12 inches. The school committee gave a euchre party and dance on Friday, the 3rd inst., in aid of the school funds. This being the first of the season, and tho weather being everything that could be desired, it was thought that a good crowd would turn up, hut owing to tho bad state of the roads, several were prevented from coming, Tho prizes were won by Miss Ross and Mr. Lee. After supper, which was supplied by the ladies, a dance followed, the music being supplied by Miss and Mr. J. Ross, aud all seemed to enjoy themselves.
I trust by now the farmers of this district, in fact all North Taranaki, will see the error of their bringing a Wellington bacon company into tho district, when there is a co-operative factory as close as Inglewood. What is the consequence? The Wellington company has withdrawn when only halt tho season is over, and wo have to fall back on tho freezing works and get lid to 2Jd per lb less than tho Inglewood Co-operative Factory are paying. Tho freezing works admit that they don’t want the pigs, and that they are there to make profit. They know tho farmers are in a hole, and they intend to profit by it. If they buy their beef and mutton in the same way as they buy tho frigs, the farmers must bo losing an enormous amount yearly, and it is high time a co-operative freezizng works was started.
