THE RUGBY GAME. SUPPRESSING ROUGH PLAY. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 8. The Wellington Rugby, Union's management committee tins evening suspended T. Rapsou, of the Athletic team, lor twq.vo mouths, for striking an opponent in the match against I'etouo last Saturday. Rapson denied that he hit the man, but the referee stated that he did, aud characterised the incident as a very deliberate ami foul ouo. Hapson said that whilst a player was forcing his way through tuner players alter a lino-out ho (Rapson) placed one of his hands on the man’s chin and shoved him back. Regret was expressed that the management committee members in Wellington had not the powor to report cases of roughness, as could be done in Otago. The chairman (Mr. E. O. Hales) said that the New Zealand Union had absolutely upset the rule Last year a man was reported by the Otago union for roughness, but tlio decision was overruled by the Now Zealand Union, and also by tile appeal committee. It was resolved to write to clubs requesting their assistance in suppressing rough play.
