“THE CONVICT’S ESCAPE.” Tho now programme to bo screened by tho Royal Pictures to-night is a splendid combination of subjects. The great picture is entitled “Convicts 10 and 13.” An attorney shoots the man with whom his wife is carrying on a flirtation, and is sentenced to penal servitude. In company with Convict No. 13, hb attemxits to escape, but the latter is recaptured. No. 10 gets away, however, and starts a new life in the colonies. He joins the police force and brings his little daughter out to join him. As years pass he receives a high position, and his daughter is betrothed to tho Governor’s sou. . Convict No. 13 now appears on the scone, and commences to blackmail her father. The latter refuses to pay, and is denounced, but tho daughter’s sweetheart, who has learned the position of affairs, obtains his pardon and produces it at the critical moment. ■The Australian Gazette, as usual, is full of the latest events of the day. “Pants and Pansies” is a screaming comedy by the American Biograph Co. The proprietors promise their numerous patrons' a musical treat on Monday, when they present for tho first time in New Plymouth, Signor Martinengo, solo cellist and baritone. The Evening Post .says: “One of the chief attractions was the wonderful ’cello playing of Signor Martinengo. All his items were good, but Tlio Broken Melody and Schumann’s Reverie fairly brought down the house.” There will be no extra charge for this double programme. EMPIRE PICTURE PALACE. A complete new programme of the latest motion pictures will bo shown at the Empire to-night. Tho new programme is a diversified arrangement that is sure to hit the public taste. Topical events aro reproduced by medium of the popular picture newspaper, “The Gaumont Graphic.” An interesting scenic picture shows the manners and customs on “Tho Frontier of Tibet,” and a jhbture that will interest every person is the great feat of pluck and endurance depicted in a film entitled “Burgess Swims the Channel.” The dramas are a fine quartette from the leading makers of the film world, and include “Saving the Special” (a Vitagraph railway drama), “Peril of tho Plains” (a Kalem Western romance), “The Freshet” (a Selig special), and a wonderful picture creation, “The Dancer of Siva.” The comedy portion is headed by a lengthy Tamihauscr comedy, “Their Burglar.”

THE NORWOODS AND VON ARX COMPANY. Tho combined shows of the Norwoods and Von Arx completed their season here Inst night. The attendance was good but not commensurate with the merits of tho performance. However, when tho company appears hero again in the near future, as was announced by Professor Norwood during the evening, crowded houses should result. Von Arx occupied the stage for the first hour ana his tricks left the public positively mystified. His best exhibition was in exposing a spiritualistic seance. Murphy was again applauded for his juggling. The Norwoods were, however, the features _of the pro. gramme. The actions of several young men from the audience, whilst under hynotic influence, wore very amusing. Professor Norwood with Winifred Norwood gave n capital exhibition of mental telepathy.

GLIDEAWAY RINK. The date of tho fancy dress and poster carnival at tho Glideaway Rink, Drill Hall, has been fixed for the 16th inst.
