DENBIGH ROAD.

April B.—A meeting of ratepayers was held m the soliooiroom on March 30 to consider the question of repairs on the road which at tne present time are badly needed. Alter a considerable amount t, uiscussmn bad been indulged in, a deputation, consisting ol Messrs. Norton, riuckstep, and Mills, was appointed to wait on t|io County. Counci, uL its next meeting, tile comic.l having, something like.a year ago, promised to subsidise a separate rate to be raised lor the purpose u; repairs. The rale has been struck and collected, but the subsidy appears to he a long way oil as yet, ali.iongh very little nas been done, in the wav ol repair during the past year, ami iht chance of getting any clung like substantial repairs done tnis side ol wim tor seems to be a little doubtful, Some better .system of road supervision than wo have been accustomed to see ior the last few years is evidently needed in this particular locality it we are ever io have a docent road. A local sports gathering has also been arranged to take piece this week. Considerable financial support has been promised, a good deal ol which is now in hand. A strong committee has been set up and a good programme of events prepared, and should weather conditions be favourable a good gathering may be expected. The Stratford A. and’P. Association has been unfortunate in its selection of a dots for its first gymkhana, and a great number have been disappointed on account of the stormy rain which has fallen almost continuously throughout the day. A great many have also been prevented from attending the gathering of the Liberal Party, which was to be held in the Town Hall at Stratford to-night. Miss Olansen, who until recently has been teacher in the local school, was married on Wednesday last, April 3, to Mr. S. M Mills, headmaster of Whangamomona School. Miss Cameron, onr new teacher, commenced duties on Monday last, and has already made herself popular among her pupils. A crihbago match between teams representing the lower and upper end of the road was held in the school on' Saturday evening last, and resulted, in a win for the upper end team.
