EASTER TOURNAMENT. The New Plymouth Golf Club’s Easter Tournament was concluded on Tuesday afternoon. Heavy rain fell in the morning, and a start could not- be made until 2 o'clock when the final tor the championship was played between W. B. Colheck and J. C. Burns both members of the Auckland Golf Club. Colbeck started well, and thanks to splendid putting, was 6 up at the turn, doing the 9 holes in 36. Burns played a fine up-hill game but could not otfithaul his opponent who won by 4 up and 3. The game was a most interesting one, Colheck playing with great pidgment and heart. Burns on the other hand was not finite so steady, and jus miss of a short putt ajter over-running the 2nd hol,c was an expensive mistake. As soon as the championship was finished, a nine-hole bogey handicap was played, I. Saunders winning from scratch with the fine card of 3 up. 3' - P. Nicoll and A. H. Steeds with 1 up tied for second place. They will play off this week. The play off for second place in Monday’s bogey handicap was' won by 3V. P.' Nicoll. , At the conclusion of the bogey handicap, Mr. W. Bewley, club captain, in the absence of the president, Mr. A. Standish, thanked the visitors tor assisting to make tho tournament the success it certainly had been. As regards the meeting, the standard of play had been the highest yet seen at any local tournament. Referring to the game itself, ho always felt that golf brought calm, pence and happiness into a, home —four members in his house played golf—and with the new course, there would bo plenty cf room ior the largely increased membership that the chib expected. He was sorry that Mr. Standish was absent, and as the gathering was the last to be hold on the old course ho would take the opportunity of thanking him for his past generosity and assistance to the club. Next year the new courrp at Waiwakaiho would be opened with the Easter Tournament, and he hoped this year s visitors would again attend and also bring their friends with them. Mr. W. B. Colbeck, on behalf of tho visitors, thanked tho members of the New Plymouth Club for a most enjoyable tournament. In spite of the weather the course, and more particularly tho gpeens, had been in fine order, and the standard, of play a high one. Ho also paid a well-deserved, compliment to Me. J. Paton, tournament secretary, for his management. Tho mooting could not, he said,, have been bettor run anywhere. The prizes were then presented by Mrs. Paton as follows: Championship.—Air. W. B.
